What is it?
ASAP is bringing a new and fresh breath to Istanbul. The project is tackling Istanbul’s transportation problem by using naval terms. It aims to provide the city’s inhabitants with a more practical and comfortable commute by taking a portion of the ground transportation load of Istanbul, with its considerably high maritime transportation capacity, and transferring it to the sea. It specifically plans to introduce maritime transportation lines parallel to the shore, where their facilitation will be further supported by new bus lines and bicycle roads. For example, to prevent a passenger from only having the option of using the metrobus while traveling from Beylikdüzü to Yenikapı, it aims to make it possible to go to the shore by buses and minibusses from Beylikdüzü and then take a ferry to reach Yenikapı.
Why?
According to the research conducted by the ASAP team, many people who live in Istanbul are unhappy with transportation. The primary reasons for this are crowded means during rush hour, the stressful commutes, and time lost in traffic. Transportation constitutes an important part of our lives. Istanbul obtains high capacity for maritime transportation, but this is under-utilized.
ASAP team has delineated these issues by interviewing metrobus passengers, inhabitants of Beylikdüzü, passengers on the Beşiktaş coast and their own acquaintances who take long commutes in İstanbul daily. Subsequent to the determination of the issue, the team proceeded to develop their solution by consulting experts through detailed conversations.
