Kök Basmane is a food production workshop project to be established in Basmane neighborhood of İzmir province.
Kök Basmane is a food production workshop project to be established in Basmane neighborhood of İzmir province. The objective of the project is to enable the habitants of the neighborhood, who are mostly people from Mardin, Diyarbakır and Syrian immigrants, to establish their own economic values in a hygene food enterprise in line with the respective legislations. The project foresees for the habitants to create their own and original recipes, training, food production, re-branding of the neighborhood in line with its traditional value and forming a district market to sell such produced authentic food. Our main focus while we realize our project was to strengthen the women workforce in the neighborhood and to use the food production process as a tool for social integration purposes.
Why?
The focused target of the Kök Basmane project is social integration.
It is aimed to use the food products as a tool and accordingly integrate the Basmane vicinity to the entirely of İzmir. The project will be developed in long term as to generate a “Basmane Model» and similar works shall be performed in Gaziantep, Mardin and Mersin provinces. Kök Basmane will work for establishing employment centers for the immigrants and future immigrants in Turkey for the sake of social and economic integration as well as creating working opportunities to the women of such neighborhoods.
