What is it?

A smart wristband designed for visually-impaired individuals determines the user’s route and provides voice and vibration directions along the way thanks to being connected to the GPS and the IETT database. Also, when prompted by the user it sends a signal to the bus, triggering a “Please vacate the disabled seat” announcement. The product is rechargeable, has an audio jack socket and has a design that can be integrated with smartphones, operated with a few buttons, and is easy to use. This design can be adapted for the hearing-impaired and wheelchair users, as well as being able to be extended with features such as playing audio books or music.

It is aimed to make it easier for visually-impaired individuals to participate in the city’s transportation system, and that they will feel more comfortable as a consequence of the sense of confidence brought about by being able to travel independently.

Why?

Disabled individuals face difficulties in transportation due to flaws and insufficiencies in the public transportation system. Visually-impaired individuals have problems getting to where they want to  due to the absence, inefficiency or outdatedness of voice announcement systems in public transportation. Visually-impaired individuals who thus are unable to participate in the transportation system of the city on equal terms, are then forced to ask others for assistance and end up feeling dependent.
