What is it?

“Route-in Istanbul” project, which aims for authentic and free routes, is a mobile app and a social awareness-raising effort where people can get away from their daily routines and share their experiences.

When the user opens the app, a map of Istanbul pops up. There are different layers on the map for pedestrians and cyclists. These layers inform the user on various aspects of the roads such as bike lanes, inclination, traffic density, bicycle parking racks, and alternative routes for both pedestrians and cyclists. Aside from this, in order to raise social awareness, a communication effort is planned which can carry the opinions and experiences of pedestrians and cyclists to the street. The users will be able to give feedback based on their own experiences during all these processes and will be able to interact by creating their own routes.

Why?

It is impossible to forget those moments when we took our first steps or the first time we were able to balance on two wheels as a child. These make permanent imprints and thus the human being starts to live a life bounded with mobility. Being in motion has a positive impact on a person both mentally and physically. However, in cities, people face various difficulties during acts such as walking or cycling. Among these are the lack of safety in certain roads, difficulties posed by the inclinations of the streets, the lack of integration of the areas designated for bicycle use with the transportation system, lack of information on pedestrian or cycling routes, and the problems related to parking spaces.
